Registration for enrichment is currently closed. The Fall 2023 enrichment season will run from September 11th – December 15th. Check back soon for our winter enrichment offerings!
Enrichment & Clubs
Our Enrichment classes are open to the wider community. We welcome all learners to join the fun! Manitou student clubs, however, are only offered to enrolled Manitou students.
Registration opens August 16th at 11:00 AM. We strongly encourage you to fill out only one registration form per student. Please note that while it is possible to cancel registration for a class/club, there is no way to edit your registration form once you submit it.
Classes with low enrollment may be canceled. If you have signed up for a class that is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be given a credit for the cost of the class that you can use to pay for any bills in Curacubby.

MONDAYS
Dungeons & Dragons
Mondays @ 3:15 PM – 5:00 PM
Available to students ages 9+
Dungeons and Dragons is a collaborative, role-playing, storytelling game in which players take on the role of a character in a fantasy world, and use dice rolls to determine the outcome of certain tasks. Guided through the world by talented Dungeon Master, Mr. Conor, these heroes work together to solve the mysteries of the world around them. No experience is needed to join the game!

Board Gamers Jr – NEW!

Available to students ages 4-6
Manitou’s own Ms. Scherrie will guide students through board game land! Learn and play classic, popular, and new age-appropriate board games in this after-school club! Games like Thin Ice, Hi Ho Cherry O, Scrabble Jr, Zingo, Monopoly Jr, and much more! Board games are not only recreational and educational: they also boost strategic thinking, improve cognitive skills (reasoning, memory, problem solving), collaboration, promote social skills, and most importantly good sportsmanship. Each week, we will be introduced to a new game, learn the rules, and play.

The Manitou Drama Club – NEW!

Available to Manitou students 9-14
Step into the imaginative realm of our after-school drama club, tailored for students in 4th to 8th grade, where young minds take center stage. Guided by Manitou drama teachers Mr. Eric and Mr. Tom, this club offers an immersive theatrical experience that takes your Manitou drama journey to the next level. Students will explore character development, storytelling, and elements of theatrical design. The class will culminate with a fully staged production (the play will be chosen based on the number of students registered). The club will continue into the winter season and a show will be produced in January/February. Details on the timing for dress and tech rehearsals will be announced during the fall. Participating in the club is free. There is a prop and production fee of $30 to fund the performance

Love “Club”

The theme of the LOVE “Club” is about cultivating and spreading kindness and warm-heartedness to one another and our wider school community at large. The creative gifts Ms. Shira brings include playing percussive instruments, singing, songwriting, dancing, creative movement, and the arts with a passion for mindfulness, all of which are shared with the children through Love “Club” activities.

Capoeira is a Brazilian art form that combines fight, dance, rhythm, and movement. Students will learn about all facets of this beautiful martial art: history, games, dance, drums, and more. Led by the lively Rafael Cabecao, children will learn to move their bodies in a new way while playing and learning about the environment this art form was raised from. Please dress the children in white shirts and pants for class. We will work towards having a performance at the end of the session.

Manitou is excited to be partnering again with Go No Sen Karate to bring Karate to Cold Spring! Karate builds confidence, strength, stamina, balance, coordination, discipline, focus and so much more. Students will have fun while mastering techniques and working through belt levels.
Belt tests and uniforms are a big part of the fun! Uniforms are required for belt tests and are optional for participating in the enrichment class. You can purchase a uniform that your child can wear for many seasons from Go No Sen for $50. Belt promotions which include the cost of the belt and test are an additional $35. You will be given the opportunity to order uniforms and opt into the belt test after you sign up for the class.

Creative Immersion Spanish

This fun and dynamic class led by the playful Ms. Erica (a long-time Spanish teacher at Manitou) will help children learn the concepts of language through games, stories, and craft activities. Each class will have a theme and will introduce children to vocabulary, verbs, pronouns, articles, and more. Perfect for beginners and those who have had some exposure and would like to learn more!

Our chess classes focus on having fun and allow students to develop important skills that they can apply to other areas of their life. NaNoWriMo – NEW!

Have you always wanted to write your own novel, but you weren’t sure where to start? Join Ms. Christi and thousands of other courageous novelers around the world and sign up for NaNoWriMo! NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is a fun, empowering approach to creative writing. The challenge: draft an entire novel in just one month. For 30 wild, exciting, and surprising days, writers get to lock away their inner editors, let their imagination take over, and just create! We will spend September and October creating characters, preparing plots, and uncovering hidden motives while also preparing our writing goals and planning how we will meet them. On November 1st we’ll kick off the official start of National Novel Writing Month.

Manitou Choir
(Manitou Students Only)

Available to Manitou students ages 8 -14 years old
Manitou Choir is taught by the beloved former Manitou music teacher, Linda Richards. The Fall season will culminate in a performance at the Manitou Winter Concert. It meets on Thursday afternoons from September through December, starting on Thursday, September 14th.
The winter/spring choir session will run from January through June. Enrollment will begin again in January. Students can be in both the fall/winter and winter/spring choir.
Singers will learn fun songs to sing in unison. This group will sing together at an evening performance for family and friends before the winter break, and will also do a couple of songs at the Manitou Winter Concert.

Heel to Heart Running Club: Manitou’s Running Team – NEW!(Manitou Students Only)

After three incredible seasons with Girls on the Run, Ms. Nicole and Ms. Allie have made the decision to form The Heel To Heart Team, Manitou’s own mid-grade running club, open to all children in grades 3-6. The Heel to Heart Team is so much more than a track team: we are a full social-emotional experience. Each week, we will spend time forming a bond as a team, exploring our character, building our self-esteem, and motivating ourselves and each other through many different activities. After our social-emotional sessions, we will get outside and run! As we build our stamina and endurance throughout the weeks, we will be preparing our kiddos to run in a community 5K in Wappingers Falls on October 28th. If you like running, or if you’re looking to make some incredible connections, The Heel To Heart Team has a place for you!

Show Me a Story

In this class taught by Manitou’s dynamic Ms. Scherrie, students will read stories and participate in an art activity inspired by the story. Specially curated tales will spark creativity, broaden students’ worldview, and help develop your child’s love of language. Pairing an art activity with a story enhances social skills, motor skills, problem-solving skills, language, and literacy skills while having fun. Create a Basquiat-inspired crown after reading Radiant Child by Javaka Steptoe or individual sand art paintings inspired by Peruvian Nazca lines or design Kente cloth paper weaving inspired by an Amansi tale. This class will surely kindle a lifelong passion for reading, writing, creating, and telling stories.

Ultimate Frisbee

Available to students ages 9-13
Develop hand-eye coordination, teamwork, and have fun with the action-packed, growing sport of ultimate frisbee! Led by Mr. Alexander, students will develop fundamentals of throwing and catching, offense and defense, and all-around good sportspersonship. Ultimate Frisbee’s “spirit of the game” provides a guiding principle that competition and good sportspersonship go hand-in-hand. Ultimate frisbee is a great way to develop spatial awareness, balance, hand-eye coordination, and multi-sensory processing.

(Off Campus) Horsemanship & Riding Lessons for Beginners – LIMITED SPACE

We are so excited to partner with Stonewall Stables again to offer this exceptional program. The beautiful outdoor facility is located just a few miles from the school. The Stonewall Stables staff is dedicated to ensuring a safe space for the physical, emotional, and educational growth of their students. The curriculum is designed to learn many aspects of riding through patterns and games while building teamwork and social skills with peers and the herd. Students will learn the essentials including horse care, handling, feeding, grooming, bathing, and upkeep in a farm setting.
This class is rewarding, challenging, and unforgettable! FOR BEGINNER STUDENTS ONLY. Families will be required to fill out a liability waiver in order to participate.

(Off Campus) Hudson Highland Kayak Expeditions – LIMITED SPACE

Available to students in 4th grade +
This month-long series of classes get your kids outdoors and on the water. The Hudson Highlands Expedition team has highly experienced, ACA-certified kayak and paddleboard instructors who will use play-based instruction methods to teach kayaking skills, safety, and environmental stewardship. We will use games and team-building strategies to create a fun and safe environment. Our experienced, certified instructor will work on basic strokes, safety, and rescue skills. Families will be required to complete a Hudson River Expeditions kayaking liability waiver before the first class in order to participate.
Students will be picked up at 3:15 pm at the school by the HRE shuttle van. Students must be picked up at 14 Market Street at 5:30 PM.

Join singer, educator, artist, and Manitou parent Mariel Sol for an enchanting journey into the world of rhythms, melodies, and fun with songs in English and Spanish! This class will be a space for your little ones to experience creative movement, music making, interactive listening, and self-expression with lively, often humorous, and engaging guidance. Through playful exploration, the children will join Mariel and her guitar in interpretative musical stories, sing and play along, musical games, and joyful experimentation.

Seeking to improve your child’s handwriting skills? Our handwriting class uses Handwriting Without Tears and is run by licensed occupational therapist Sophie Kinnarney. These small group interactive classes will focus on improving letter formation, sizing, spacing, and placement of letters in a fun and creative way to improve the neatness and legibility of writing. Sophie will also work with parents to support the generalization of these skills at home.

This class will be held during the school day to allow children a movement break and work on these skills.

Each art class focuses on an age-appropriate activity that will build fine motor skills, improve sensory integration, and foster creativity. These small group classes are run by a licensed occupational therapist Sophie Kinnarney. Children will be encouraged to use a wide range of materials including paint, clay, crayons, sand, and other textures. Each week children will engage and participate in multi-step activities to
promote self-confidence, independence, and imagination.

Natural Remedies To Keep Your Family Healthy During The Cold And Flu Season – NEW!
Getting sick during the school year can be so hard on the entire family! What if you could lessen the amount of sick days using natural remedies at home? Learn how to treat your entire family naturally using herbs and plants you can find right in your own grocery store. In this class, you will learn how to make several home remedies that will boost adults’ and children’s immune systems to prevent and treat colds and cases of flu. You will be provided with a list of plants you can find easily in your own local grocery stores and several recipes that are easy to follow and make at home. You will also learn how these plants work in your body and why they are effective. Participants will leave with an herbal remedy we will make in class together.
Kim Chase is a Teacher in the Bridge Class at Manitou and has a passion for studying herbalism. For the past 20 years, Kim has been studying with herbalists and taking courses in plant identification and herbal medicine making. She has recently completed a certificate program through the Heartstone Herbal School in upstate New York where she received an in-depth foundation in herbal studies and in physiology and anatomy and how plants interact in the different body systems. She has two kids at Manitou and she uses her own herbal remedies to treat her kids and herself to stay healthy.

Join our amazing art teacher and ambidextrous visual artist Donna Mikkelsen for an evening of wine and spontaneous symmetry painting.

I’m so excited to share my artistic practice with you all! Spontaneous Symmetry helps open up new creative possibilities. We will experiment and experience drawing to music and drawing collaboratively. Open to all levels!

*If Manitou or the individual is able to recruit a replacement for their spot in class/program, a full refund will be distributed with a $25 processing fee.
In addition,
- If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, participants will receive their full tuition refund or enrichment class credit.
- Cancellations initiated by the participant must be requested a minimum of 7 days prior to the start of the class. This request must be made in writing to the enrichment/program coordinator.
- These policies will apply to all enrichment-based programs at the Manitou School, unless stated otherwise in the program description and or informational/promotional materials. We understand there may be special situations that need extra consideration, and we attempt to accommodate everyone fairly and evaluate these situations on a case-by-case basis. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the program’s director.
