Dungeons & Dragons

Mondays @ 3:15 – 5:30pm
Available to students ages 9+

Join beloved teacher and experienced Dungeon Master Mr. Conor for Dungeons and Dragons. D&D is a collaborative, role-playing, storytelling game in which players take on the role of a character and explore fantasy worlds together while embarking on quests and leveling up in experience. This interactive game helps players build social emotional skills, build confidence, express their creativity, and connect with peers. No experience is needed to join the adventure.

Flying Puppets

Mondays @ 3:15 – 4:30pm
Available to students ages 5-10 years

Local artist Christina Di Marco will teach students fun and interesting techniques for making winged puppets using recycled materials. Students will have a chance to conceptualize, create, and showcase their puppets in a simple performance at the end of class. This class will teach art and puppetry techniques while modeling sustainability.

Mini Roos Fitness Bootcamp with Mr. Anthony

Mondays @ 3:15 – 4:00pm
Available to students ages 5-8

With Mr. Anthony, the fun comes first, and we guarantee there is a lot of it during this fitness program! Games, exercises and movement—it’s all there and designed to make kids stronger, faster, and more agile.This class is a great way to keep younger bodies in motion and active during the winter months when less outdoor time can leave kids with extra energy. Please make sure children come to class with sneakers and an outfit they are comfortable to run around in. Students will have time between dismissal and the start of class to eat a snack and change if needed.

Fitness Bootcamp with Mr. Anthony

Mondays @ 4:15 – 5:00 PM
Available to students ages 9+

Mr. Anthony’s bootcamp will improve your strength, stamina, and overall  fitness for any activity. This fun workout class consists of sports drills, jump rope, obstacle courses, circuits, fun games, and interval training. Fitness bootcamp will be great preparation for “Running with Mr. Anthony”, which will be offered in the Spring. Please make sure children come to class with sneakers and an outfit they are comfortable to run around in. Students will have time between dismissal and the start of class to eat a snack and change if needed.

Sculpture (Off Campus) at The Garrison Art Center

We are excited to be partnering with Garrison Art Center for this exciting sculpture class. Students will get the chance to work with a Garrison Art Center teaching artist and create sculptural projects! They will try their hands exploring different materials and methods of creating art “in the round”.

Show Me A Story

Tuesdays @ 3:15 PM – 4:30 PM
Available to students ages 4-9

In this class taught by Manitou’s own dynamic Ms. Scherrie, students will read stories and participate in an art activity inspired by the story. Specially chosen tales will spark creativity while developing your child’s love of language. Projects will include creating a Basquiat inspired crown after reading Radiant Child by Javaka Steptoe, making individual sand art paintings inspired by Peruvian Nazca lines, design Kente cloth paper weaving inspired by an Amansi tale and many more adventures in literature and learning sure to kindle a lifelong passion for reading, writing, creating and telling stories.

Cryptocurrency for Kids

Tuesdays @ 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Available to students 5th-8th grade

Allow our own Mr. David to introduce you to the basics of cryptocurrency! In this 5-week class, students will learn about blockchain as a technology, consensus mechanisms, how to create a non-custodial wallet and make our own NFT. An iPad, iPhone, or Android (an old iPhone or Android without a sim card can work too as long as wifi still works!) The device will need to have Pera Wallet for (Algorand and Blockchain) downloaded  before the start of first class.

Capoeira

Group 1: Tuesdays @ 3:15 – 4:00pm  | Ages 3-6
Group 2: Tuesdays @ 4:15 – 5:15pm | Ages 7+

Led by lively Rafael Cabecao, capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines dance, music, and acrobatics. It teaches discipline, self-defense, physical fitness, and promotes self-esteem. It is considered one of the top all-around strength, flexibility, and aerobic exercises. Students will learn about all facets of this beautiful martial art: history, games, dance, drums, and more. Please dress children in white shirts and pants for class. Students will work towards having a performance at the end of the session.

Creative Immersion Spanish

Available to students ages 5-8 years old

Manitou Spanish teacher Ms. Erica believes play and fun are essential components in a successful learning process. This fun and dynamic class has been developed by her to help children learn the concepts of language through games, stories, and craft activities. Each class will have a theme and will introduce children to vocabulary, verbs, pronouns, articles, and more. Perfect for beginners and those who have had some exposure and would like to learn more!

Magical Movement with Ash

Wednesdays @ 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Available to students ages 9+

Drop into the body and MOVE! In this exciting new movement workshop with Ash Starnes, students will learn fun ways to work together and express themselves through the body in space. Part mindfulness, part dance, part relationship building, this workshop will explore the ways in which dance, rhythm, and body awareness can help us make the world a more magical place. No movement or dance background is necessary to join.

Instructor Mr. Rudolf’s love of chess is contagious! Rudolf van Dommele is an experienced chess player and teacher. This chess class is a great way to learn the game or advance your level of play. Learning chess develops problem-solving skills, creative thinking, strategic planning, pattern recognition, and memorization skills while teaching sportsmanship and building self-confidence at the same time.

Empathy Through Improv

Wednesdays @ 3:15 PM – 4:00 PM
Available to students ages10+

Improv is an excellent tool to help children build communication skills, social skills, and think creatively. Mr. Alexander brings his expertise and playful energy in teaching improv and comedy to our students through this workshop that uses improv games, techniques, and mantras to explore personal truths and have fun. Students will develop stage presence and storytelling instincts with an underlying theme of mindfulness and empathy. Each session will designate a portion of time for discussion and a portion of time for playing/performing with each other.

Stained Glass series. Composition of colorful stained glass patterns suitable as a backdrop for the projects on art, design and forces of Nature for extra large displays.

Stained Glass Making

Thursdays @ 3:15 PM – 4:30 PM
Available to students age 9+

In this unique art class taught by artist and teacher Ms. Nicole, students will learn the geometrical and natural art of symmetry which will lead to the design of stained glass sun catchers. This class will teach students patterning, taping of stained glass, and the soldering process. Students will be guided through this process twice and make three sun catchers. The final class will be a gallery featuring students’ stained glass art.

Manitou’s Ms. Allie is excited to bring a bit of her love of theater to Manitou’s enrichment program. Story theater is a unique form of theater where the actors and the playwrights are one in the same. Together, we will create a story, turn it into a play, and perform it for an audience at the end of our time together. This collaborative project will spark a deeper love for both writing and acting in your children.

Mythmakers

Available to students 4th grade +

In this class, students will explore the origin story of different heroes in mythology across cultures. Instructor and Artist Ms. Wade will then work with students on developing their own mythological heroes creating a narrative told through mixed media art.

Dungeons & Dragons for Middle Schoolers

Thursdays @ 3:15 PM – 5:15 PM
Available to Middle School Students

Dungeons and Dragons class for middle schoolers only! Dungeons and Dragons is a collaborative role-playing / storytelling game in which players take on the role of a character in a fantasy world, and use dice rolls to determine the outcome of certain tasks. Guided through the world by a Dungeon Master (class instructor Michael Rinere), these heroes work together to solve the mysteries of the world around them. In this campaign students play Hyperborea, a streamlined game that cuts out modern clunky mechanics and gets the kids back to the fun of imagination and roleplay, while making combat feel fast, fun, and exciting. No experience is needed to join the game.

Occupational Therapy Groups (Before School)

Handwriting Class

Tuesdays @ 8:00-8:30am
Available to students ages 4-10

Seeking to improve your child’s handwriting skills? Our handwriting class uses Handwriting Without Tears and is run by licensed occupational therapist Lacey Straub, who will work with your child to improve their handwriting skills. These small interactive classes will focus on improving letter formation, sizing, spacing and placement of letters in a fun and creative way to improve neatness and legibility of writing. The OT will also work with parents to support generalization of these skills at home.

Movement Class

Tuesdays @ 8:00-8:30am
Available to students ages 4-10

These small group classes are run by a licensed occupational therapist Sophie Kinnarney, , who will work on improving your child’s strength, endurance and flexibility. There are many benefits to improving your child’s core strength including better sitting/attention in the classroom, improved motor planning and body awareness in motor play, better balance/coordination and overall self-confidence. Children will participate in activities including yoga, obstacle course and therapeutic exercises.

Art Class

Each art class focuses on an age appropriate activity that will build fine motor skills, improve sensory integration and foster creativity. Children will be encouraged to use a wide range of materials including paint, clay, crayons, sand and other textures. Each week children will engage and participate in multi-step activities to promote self-confidence, independence and imagination.

*If Manitou or the individual is able to recruit a replacement for their spot in class/program, a full refund will be distributed with a $25 processing fee.

In addition, 

  1. If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, participants will receive their full tuition refund or enrichment class credit.
  2. Cancellations initiated by the participant must be requested a minimum of 7 days prior to the start of the class. This request must be made in writing to the enrichment/program coordinator.
  3. These policies will apply to all enrichment-based programs at the Manitou School, unless stated otherwise in the program description and or informational/promotional materials. We understand there may be special situations that need extra consideration, and we attempt to accommodate everyone fairly and evaluate these situations on a case-by-case basis. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the program’s director.
