Enrichment & Clubs
Our Enrichment classes are open to the wider community. We welcome all learners to join the fun! Manitou student clubs, however, are only offered to enrolled Manitou students.
We strongly encourage you to fill out only one registration form per student. Please note that while it is possible to cancel registration for a class/club, there is no way to edit your registration form once you submit it.
Classes with low enrollment may be canceled. If you have signed up for a class that is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be given a credit for the cost of the class that you can use to pay for any bills in Curacubby.

MONDAYS
Heel to Heart Running Club
Mondays & Thursdays @ 3:15 – 4:30
Available to students ages 8-14

Manitou’s own Heel to Heart Running Club is open to all children in grades 3-8. Heel to Heart is so much more than a track team; we are a full social-emotional experience. Each week, we will spend time forming a bond as a team, exploring our character, building our self-esteem, and motivating ourselves and each other through many different activities. After our social-emotional sessions, we will get outside and run! As we build our stamina and endurance throughout the weeks, we will be preparing our kiddos to run in a Spring 5K (date and information TBA). If you enjoy running and/or if you’re looking to make some incredible connections, Heel to Heart has a place for you! Students may opt to join once or twice a week. (Mondays with Ms. Allie and Ms. Dawn and Thursdays with Ms. Nicole and Ms. Allie)

Babysitting & Beyond: Childcare and Professionalism Basics – NEW!
Mondays @ 3:15 – 4:15
Available to students ages 11-14
Instructor: Maggie McCabe
Calling all future babysitters! The Babysitting & Beyond: Childcare and Professionalism Basics class is for students who are eager to learn the ins and outs of childcare. Led by the experienced former babysitter and current school counselor, Ms. Maggie, this class offers hands-on training in babysitting skills, including basic first aid, child safety, and creative play techniques. Through interactive workshops and real-world simulations, students will gain confidence and practical knowledge in caring for young children. Whether it’s using positive language, communicating professionally, or organizing fun activities, the Babysitters Club equips students with the skills and responsibility needed to become reliable and competent babysitters in their community.

Instructor: Anthony Trimboli
Come work on your soccer skills with Mr. Anthony! Students will do this through playing a variety of fun small sided games. They will also be playing a version of the World Cup! Mr. A will teach students all about the World’s biggest game and each little ‘Socceroo’ will become a better player by the end of the course. Come play!

Dungeons & Dragons – FULL
Mondays @ 3:15 – 5:15
Available to students ages 9+
Instructor: Conor Austin
Dungeons and Dragons is a collaborative, role-playing, storytelling game in which players take on the role of a character in a fantasy world, and use dice rolls to determine the outcome of certain tasks. Guided through the world by talented Dungeon Master Mr. Conor, these heroes work together to solve the mysteries of the world around them. No experience is needed to join the game! Players enrolled in the Winter 2023 class will be able to continue their game in the fall season. New students can enroll if a spot opens up.

Board Gamers

Available to students ages 4-6
Instructor: Scherrie Donaldson
Manitou’s own Ms. Scherrie will guide students through board game land! Learn and play classic, popular, and new age-appropriate board games in this after-school club! Games like Thin Ice, Hi Ho Cherry O, Scrabble Jr, Zingo, Monopoly Jr, and much more! Board games are not only recreational and educational: they also boost strategic thinking, improve cognitive skills (reasoning, memory, problem solving), collaboration, promote social skills, and most importantly good sportsmanship. Each week, we will be introduced to a new game, learn the rules, and play.

Creative Workshop – NEW!

Manitou teachers Mr. Javier and Ms. Elisa are excited to share our outdoor maker’s space with the Manitou community! Come get inspired in our outdoor art studio. Through creative projects guided by Mr. Javi and Ms. Elisa, students will use our wide array of tools and materials to build their own artwork.

The theme of The Love “Club” is about cultivating and spreading kindness and warm-heartedness to one another and our wider school community at large.The creative gifts Ms. Shira brings include playing percussive instruments, singing, songwriting, dancing, creative movement, and the arts with a passion for mindfulness, all of which are shared with the children through Love “Club” activities.

Capoeira

Instructor: Rafel Cabecao – Cai Na Capoeira
Capoeira is a Brazilian art form that combines fight, dance, rhythm, and movement. Students will learn about all facets of this beautiful martial art: history, games, dance, drums, and more. Led by the lively Rafael Cabecao, children will learn to move their bodies in a new way while playing and learning about the environment this art form was raised from. Please dress the children in white shirts and pants for class. We will work towards having a performance at the end of the session.

Little Books and Treasures
Tuesdays @ 3:15 – 4:15
Available to students ages 5-13
Instructor: Christina Di Marco
Let’s create little books that fold and flap, surprise creations, boxes and treasures. We’ll be making star books, boxes with painted rocks, paper snappers and origami stars, books with shell covers, mobiles, acorn gems and dancing figures with little puppet theatres. We will paint, use scissors and glue techniques and mixed media art projects. Come join the fun! Experiment with suminagashi and use these papers for covers of different book forms – make unique art for yourself and others. This class is taught by one of our favorite local artists, Christina Di Marco.

Instructor: Sandy Nash
Children always run for the paints and markers as soon as they enter a classroom. Colors generate excitement and fuel the creative nature innate in all children. Each session will be dedicated to a color and the multitude of objects and events elicited by that color. Lots of questions and lots of answers. Why is the grass green? Let’s draw something blue. How can I make purple? How many foods are red? Of course, there is the rainbow that every child and most adults love. That will be the last session and Ms. Sandy loves rainbows!

Learn to do a variety of logic, math, and word puzzles like Sudoku, KenKen, Spelling Bee, and Wordle. Learn how they work as well as strategies to unlock beginner and more advanced puzzles. Bring a game/puzzle you love and teach the group how to do it, or bring one you want to learn!

Art and Science Show – NEW!

Instructor: Serena Wessely
Do you like science and art? The ‘Art & Science Show’ enrichment class will guide you on creating an interactive outdoor art installation to communicate a research topic. You will choose a topic to study, and we will collaborate to create an outdoor installation utilizing recycled materials and more! At the end of the session, we will hold a cookout and invite the community to learn about and enjoy all of our installations.

Our chess classes focus on having fun and allow students to develop important skills that they can apply to other areas of their life. Chess is a mentally rewarding game of skill that enhances cognitive development in children while providing a stimulating challenge. Mr. Rudolf’s love and experience of the game is contagious!

Karate with Go No Sen

Manitou is excited to be partnering again with Go No Sen Karate to bring Karate to Cold Spring! Karate builds confidence, strength, stamina, balance, coordination, discipline, focus and so much more. Students will have fun while mastering techniques and working through belt levels.
Belt tests and uniforms are a big part of the fun! Uniforms are required for belt tests and are optional for participating in the enrichment class. You can purchase a uniform that your child can wear for many seasons from Go No Sen for $50. Belt promotions which include the cost of the belt and test are an additional $35. You will be given the opportunity to order uniforms and opt into the belt test after you sign up for the class.

Ultimate Frisbee is back at Manitou! Ultimate is an inclusive sport that kids of all ages and levels can grasp. This program develops students’ spatial awareness, balance, hand eye coordination, and multisensory processing, while practicing healthy competition and teamwork. This season, mr. alexander is hoping to organize a few field trips to scrimmage with other teams!

Manitou Drama Club

Instructors: Eric Saiet and Tom Butler
Mr. Eric and Mr. Tom return for another fun filled production. This time they will take one of Shakespeare’s comedies and mash it up with some improv, wacky props and an outdoor setting for some fast and furious Elizabethan hijinks. The show will be presented in early June, so make sure not to leave town too early if you want to join!

Kids need to move, and connecting with sensation in the body is a particularly effective way to explore mindfulness.
Erin McKeon Bell has been a student and teacher of mindfulness for over 25 years and is so excited to spend a morning bringing mindful play and movement to your littles.
When movement + mindfulness are taught together, both become more powerful. Yoga offers a pathway to mindfulness, grounded in practice and accessible to all. They cultivate inner resources that maximize resilience and support healthy navigation of challenges. When kids connect with their inner resources, when they identify their own capacity for agency and embrace their personal power, they can thrive regardless of their circumstances, and during their greatest challenges. Mindful Movement and Games will be an exploration of elements such as: Cultivating connection and awareness of the self and others, Harnessing the power of the breath to manage energy and sooth nervous system. Learn ways of moving and reading messages of the body to help activate the brain for learning, Noticing when you’re distracted, bring your attention back and Resting to restore alertness, manage over-stimulation.

Do you like to sing? Do you like to learn harmonies? Do you love the way it sounds when you lift your voice with a whole bunch of other voices? Well, then – the Manitou Choir is for you!
The Manitou Choir after school club meets on Thursdays from 3:00-4:30 in the Barn. Choir singers must be 8 years of age and older.
The choir is always looking for new members and our performances are SO much fun!

Show Me A Story – WAITLIST ONLY

In this class taught by Manitou’s dynamic Ms. Scherrie, students will read stories and participate in an art activity inspired by the story. Specially curated tales will spark creativity, broaden students’ worldviews, and help develop your child’s love of language. Pairing an art activity with a story enhances social skills, motor skills, problem-solving skills, language, and literacy skills while having fun. Create a Basquiat-inspired crown after reading Radiant Child by Javaka Steptoe or individual sand art paintings inspired by Peruvian Nazca lines – or design Kente cloth paper weaving inspired by an Amansi tale. This class will surely kindle a lifelong passion for reading, writing, creating, and telling stories.

We are so excited to partner with Stonewall Stables again to offer this exceptional program. The beautiful outdoor facility is located just a few miles from the school. The Stonewall Stables staff is dedicated to ensuring a safe space for the physical, emotional, and educational growth of their students. The curriculum is designed to learn many aspects of riding through patterns and games while building teamwork and social skills with peers and the herd. Students will learn the essentials including horse care, handling, feeding, grooming, bathing, and upkeep in a farm setting.
This class is rewarding, challenging, and unforgettable! FOR BEGINNER STUDENTS ONLY. Families will be required to fill out a liability waiver in order to participate.

Ukulele Jam Band – NEW!

Calling all ukulele players! Come and join Mr. Javi and the Manitou Ukulele Class. Whether you’re a seasoned strummer or just starting out, all are welcome. We’ll begin with some ukulele basics, learn foundational chords and play some fun strumming patterns all while learning new songs. Let’s make some music!

3D Tunnel Bookmaking Canceled due to low enrollment

In this class with Manitou’s own Ms. Scherrie, students will create their own 3D Tunnel Picture Book (kit included!). We will use a template/book kit to build and design your book! We’ll craft movable animals that can be posed and played with.

Fairytale Chess – WAITLIST ONLY

Instructor: Dawn Miller
Even the youngest of children can learn to play chess when it’s taught in a way that is meaningful and fun! In this class, chess will come alive through dramatic play and engaging stories about a land of kings and queens. Ms. Dawn will introduce beginners to the game through fun stories and simple activities to learn the fundamentals of chess.

*If Manitou or the individual is able to recruit a replacement for their spot in class/program, a full refund will be distributed with a $25 processing fee.
In addition,
- If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, participants will receive their full tuition refund or enrichment class credit.
- Cancellations initiated by the participant must be requested a minimum of 7 days prior to the start of the class. This request must be made in writing to the enrichment/program coordinator.
- These policies will apply to all enrichment-based programs at the Manitou School, unless stated otherwise in the program description and or informational/promotional materials. We understand there may be special situations that need extra consideration, and we attempt to accommodate everyone fairly and evaluate these situations on a case-by-case basis.
