Learning happens everywhere.
Before school, after school, during the summers – these are excellent opportunities for enrichment.

Our Enrichment classes are open to the community.  We welcome all learners to join the fun!

ON-GOING PROGRAMS (Fall, Winter & Spring)

 

SOCIAL TOTS (FREE)
Tuesdays from 8:45am – 9:45am

Drop off the big kids at school and join us for some tot time! Children up to 3 years old are welcome with their parent or caregiver to come to the Manitou School Gym to play and socialize. This is also a great way for parents to get out of the house and meet other parents. Days with good weather we will meet in the playground and enjoy the outdoors!

 

GO NO SEN KARATE at The Manitou School

The Manitou School will continue to offer Karate to our community by our partnership with Go No Sen Karate. Karate is an amazing way to help kids channel their energy in a sport that is focused on the whole child. Physical activity paired with discipline and structure provides a great way for kids to focus their energy as well as stay fit.

$240 / 8 week session *Uniforms must be purchased prior to start of class.

   This enrichment class will offer advanced training while introducing new elements such as: sparring, weapons training, etc.  Kids will not want to miss out on this class as it will help get them closer to their next belt upgrade.(Must be enrolled in Tuesday class in order to take this class)

CAPOEIRA!

Available to students age 8+

Capoeira is a Brazilian art form which combines fight, dance, rhythm and movement. Students will learn the about all facets of this beautiful martial art: history, games, dance, drums and more. Led by Rafael Cabecao (who some of you will remember from our Carnival), children will learn to move their bodies in a new way while playing and learning about the environment this art form was raised from. Children must wear white shirts and pants for class. We will work towards having a performance at the end of the session.

LET’S HAVE A BALL!
Available to students ages 3-5

Children will have a blast while learning the basic concepts of various sports. Through the use of sports balls and fun games, students will learn how to throw, kick, bounce and much more! Taught by Nancy Bayer, this class is sure to set the foundation of an interest in games and sports

BEGINNER GUITAR CLASS
Available to students ages 6-8
Limited space available/ Students must have their own beginner guitar

Young students will learn learn all aspects of beginner guitar, from the parts of a guitar all the way to simple chords and songs. Students will even learn how to keep their fingers from getting sore and create a friendship with their guitar. Really! Taught by the musical Mr. Conor Austin this class will keep your kids strumming along!

CODING AND ROBOTICS FOR GIRLS
Available to students age 8+
(Boys may join the class as well but priority of enrollment will be given to girls)

This class is geared to introduce girls into the world of technology in a supportive environment with the freedom to explore robotics and coding at their own pace. Girls will explore creative problem-solving and learn the fundamental concepts of coding in order to program robots with unique personalities. They will learn logical-sequencing to program robots with lights, sounds, and a variety of motion sensors. They will learn about basic programming and use the engineering process to design environments where their robots can explore and try programmed skills. Taught by the ever-curious Brenda Perry, this is a great introduction into the world of coding logic.

SCIENCE OF FUN
Available to students ages 5-8

Science takes center stage in this class. Children will learn about science through observations and many hands-on experiments that go boom, splat, and maybe even a little ick. This class helps illustrate how science is an every day part of our lives while showing them all the wonders that can unfold. Taught by the ever-curious Ms. Johanna, kids will love learning in this class!

WEE CHEFS
Available to students ages 3- 5

The Wee Chefs course will incorporate basic food preparation skills, measuring and safety in the kitchen and the opportunity to learn easy and fun treats that can be made at home. Recipes will be hands on sensory learning and delicious to boot! At the end of each class, the Wee Chefs will enjoy their own tasty hand-made treats. Lead by Chef Nancy Bayer, this class is sure to please even the pickiest of palettes.

EMERGENCY! A MINI-MED SCHOOL CLASS
Available to students 11+

Students will get an up-close and personal look into the world of medical emergencies via our Paramedic and Emergency Room experts. Age appropriate classes will be taught on CPR, bandaging, basic biology as well as what happens in the ER. This is a can’t miss class for our young adults who have an interest in the medical field. Taught by Nick Ranalli (Paramedic for 10 years, EMS for 15 years. Currently working with Westchester EMS) and Dr. Aric Kupper (emergency medicine doctor for 17 years, currently works in a busy emergency department in Brooklyn, New York that sees over 100,000 patients a year) students will learn to keep their cool in an emergency as well as how to jump into action!

WEDNESDAYS

JUNIOR CODING AND ROBOTICS
Available to students ages 5 to 7

Students will learn about behavior-based programming using Ozobots, and LEGO® WeDo Robotics. They will learn robot behaviors in an intuitive logical-sequence starting with simple programming and decision-making capabilities. Through building models and using a computer to program the model’s behavior, students will learn an interactive approach to problem-solving. Taught by the ever-curious Brenda Perry, this is a great class to propel students into problem solving and coding.

KIDS ROCK
Available to students age 10 +

Explore various musical styles/instruments and learn to collaborate with bandmates to create your own songs and compositions. Lead by the fearless Chris Faroe, this is a great way to continue your child’s interest in music as well as provide a path into exploring specific musical instruments.

SPEAK AND PLAY IN JAPANESE!
Available to students age 4+

Students will love playing, making crafts, and singing all while being taught and encouraged to speak Japanese. The lovely and vocal Ms. Sakura will lead this group in games, art projects, songs and more while teaching the basics of the Japanese language. This is a great class for families who speak Japanese in the home or those students interested in a new language and culture. Taught by the always incredible Sakura Ozaki!

TAKE A HIKE: A WILDERNESS SURVIVAL CLASS
Available to students ages 8+

The wilderness survival class will be taking it to the local trails this Spring! Each week, we will be driving kids to a local kid-friendly trail to explore and learn about our local woods. Along the way, we will find and learn about wild edibles, look for animal signs and tracks, play wilderness survival games and create Andy Goldsworthy inspired nature art. Grab those hiking shoes and join Ms. Kim on this exciting trail adventure!

CREATURE CREATIONS: A PAPER MACHE SCULPTURE CLASS
Available to students ages 6+

This class is truly for younger elementary all through middle school kids. Students will learn to dream up and create magical creatures through this hands-on sculpture course. Students will learn the fundamentals of paper maché while tapping into their wildest imaginations. No creature is too strange or wonderful to come to life! INVENTORS: A MINI-MAKERS PROGRAM
Available to students ages 5 to 8

Learn about a new inventor or invention every week and create your own unique inventions. This fun and educational class will teach children about innovation, thinking beyond the box and applying their imagination to creating special works of engineering, art, and product design. Using recycled materials as well as some special gadgets, children will be able to use their fine motor skills to help bring their imagination to life. Taught by the awesome Johanna Reinhardt.

ARTFUL STORIES
Available to students ages 3-5

Young storytellers will learn to tell their tales through art. This class will help children narrate their own tales through pictures of various mediums: paint, pencil, found objects, charcoal. It won’t be neat but this all sensory experience will help children express their narratives in new and creative ways. Taught by the ever loquacious Mr. Adam, kids will bring home their stories for the whole family to enjoy.

MANITOU SCHOOL AFTER CARE 
(M-Th) 3pm – 5:30pm (Please contact school for fee structure)

The Manitou School offers after care services to students currently enrolled at Manitou. The After Care Program allows time for children to have free play as well as time to read, create art, and do homework. There is no After Care on Fridays. Please provide your child with a nut-free healthy snack every day they are attending an afternoon enrichment class or aftercare. Snack must be in a separate clearly marked container. Snacks are not provided by the school.

* Please make sure you pick up by 5:30pm, an additional $30 late fee will apply for pick-ups after 5:30pm.
